Below is the story as it unfolded....
3/8/06: As many of you have already heard, our van, the 2003 Ford Econoline we bought two days before we left for tour, was stolen with all our equipment in Philadelphia. Our van was parked in a well-lit, 24-hour attendant secured lot with a club on the steering wheel. Even though we did everything we could to keep this van safe and secured, the thieves sawed through the club, hotwired the van and drove it through the parking lot checkout fence. Pretty unbelievable. Unfortunately our van insurance does not cover theft and while some of our insurance might cover some of the gear, it will most likely be minimal.
6:30 pst 3/9/06 update: The Philadelphia police department found our van with all the gear gone. We haven't seen it yet, but we understand that the steering wheel was cut in half to take the club off, the ignition broken to start with a screwdriver and locks broken. Some new dents as well, but we haven't seen it yet. But of course all our favorite instruments, amps and pedals are gone so it's not great. Thanks to everyone who has been getting the word out, especially Pitchfork, The Metro in Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Inquirer. Anyone in those regions please continue to pass the word about the equipment, we're very appreciative of all your support.
7:30 est 3/13/06 update: We're sorry to announce that we're not going to make the Memphis show on Tuesday. We've been very lucky to be able to borrow gear for our shows in an attempt to finish this tour, but we've run into some unexpected scheduling problems that will prevent us from getting into Memphis on time for the show. We're hoping on our next tour we'll be able to make up these shows in DC, Providence, Memphis and Welleseley College (thanks Welleseley for donating the show payment, so kind). We're still planning to play all our shows in Austin, as well as Noise Pop Festival and LA. Thanks everyone for your support and donations so far, we're still working on trying to replace our gear. We never knew how many friends we have out there. We'll keep you updated with any changes.
Thanks so much to all the support we've been getting from our friends, family and fans. Emails, myspace comments and articles, it's wonderful to feel like we're not alone in this. Also, because we're getting hit with some big costs here we've set up a paypal account for donations. If you are able to donate anything at all, we'd be extremely appreciative. Everything and anything at this point helps.
3/21: Hi, after a 30-hours-straight drive from Austin we're finally back home safe from this nightmare tour. We're resting and attempting to reset before the next couple shows. Our warmest regards go out to our buddy and sound engineer Dave who's mom was diagnosed with cancer on this tour and had to leave us. We'll be announcing our benefit show in SF soon so check back in the next couple days. We're beginning to sound like a skipping cd, but thanks so much for your letter and support.
